Institutional website or web application? Understand the differences

Compare websites, web systems, and apps to choose the right platform for your business.

The difference is the task

A business website explains an offer and guides enquiries. A web application enables tasks and data workflows. Authentication is common in systems but does not define the category: a website can have restricted areas, and an application can provide public tools.

One campaign, one offer, one actionLanding page

Device-specific capabilitiesAssess web and native options

A native app is not automatically the best experience or necessarily more expensive. The choice depends on device capabilities, distribution, offline use and maintenance. A web application can serve mobile users without installation.

Before commissioning work

Describe the main task and people involved. A website form needs content, privacy and confirmed persistence; an approval system also needs access rules, states and history. List integrations and exceptions to avoid comparing proposals with different scope.

When to combine them

A business can have a public website and an operational portal with separate purposes. Marketing content must not expose internal data. Plan access and maintenance for each part.
