Does your website load slowly on phones? Investigate before rebuilding
A visitor follows the link and sees an empty background or a heading arriving late. Understanding the offer requires waiting.
A visitor follows the link and sees an empty background or a heading arriving late. Understanding the offer requires waiting. This may interrupt a visit, but lost sales cannot be calculated without evidence. Identify what takes time to arrive or display, separating network, server, resource and rendering issues.
Observe one important page
Choose a commercial route, open it on a phone and note the first useful content. Test the journey to the form as well. Your connection does not represent every visitor. Laboratory tools help reproduce conditions and investigate a sequence; field data, where available, describes real experiences.
LCP measures the presentation of the largest visible content element. Find that element before explaining a high value. It could be a heading rather than an image. Improving an unrelated resource may leave the actual delay unchanged.
| Observation | Next investigation |
|---|---|
| HTML responds late | Server, query and request path |
| Image loading starts late | Resource discovery and priority |
| Resource arrives but remains invisible | CSS, fonts, scripts and rendering |
| Content moves while being read | Reserved dimensions and inserted content |
Change one variable at a time and compare the same page, profile and cache conditions. Keeping only the fastest run conceals variation. A useful diagnosis records the change, measurement conditions and limits of the result.
Prepare evidence without removing the experience
Collect original images, identify third-party widgets or video and list priority routes. Check for resources much larger than their displayed size. Do not remove functions impulsively: an integration may be operationally important even if its loading approach needs adjustment.
Avoid assigning high priority to every resource. They compete for connection and processing capacity. Priority should follow important visible content while less urgent work can wait without hiding essential information. Stable dimensions help prevent unexpected movement.
Know when code inspection is necessary
Fonts, bundles, queries and rendering dependencies require front-end inspection and sometimes server investigation. I can assess these areas within system modernisation or a website project, depending on the existing architecture.
A complete redesign should solve a need beyond loading speed. Bring the URL, important commercial journeys and observed behaviour. The proposal should establish verifiable priorities while preserving readability and functionality, rather than promising a score or future revenue.
