Business website or landing page: why do visits fail to become enquiries?
People visit your website, yet enquiries remain vague or barely arrive. Before blaming the visual design, ask whether the page answers the reason they came.
People visit your website, yet enquiries remain vague or barely arrive. Before blaming the visual design, ask whether the page answers the reason they came. Someone comparing your business needs a different explanation from someone following an advert for a specific service. Choosing between a website and a landing page starts with this intent, not with animation or page count.
Reconstruct the visitor's arrival
Open the exact advertised link on a phone. Read the heading without using the menu. Identify the offer, its audience and the next step. If those answers require searching several sections, you have a friction hypothesis to test. This does not prove that design caused lost sales: traffic quality, the offer and follow-up also matter.
A business website helps visitors compare services and understand your work. A landing page focuses on one campaign or need. It can live inside the same website, use the same CMS and preserve your identity without creating a separate publishing operation.
| Visitor need | Structure worth considering |
|---|---|
| Compare several services | Separate, connected service pages |
| Understand one advertised assessment | A page explaining that assessment |
| Check responsibility and approach | Accessible About and engagement information |
Match the promise to the enquiry
Consider a hypothetical consultancy advertising a process assessment but linking to its company history. Visitors still need to discover whether the assessment includes interviews, document review or a report. A focused page can explain inputs, deliverables and limits. It does not need to hide navigation or manufacture urgency.
Test the form, not just its appearance. Check labels, keyboard use, required fields, an invalid email and confirmation after a successful submission. An attractive button that fails to save a request creates an operational issue. Ask another person what they expect after clicking, without suggesting the answer.
Start with a practical correction
Rewrite one vague promise, repair a broken link and answer a question repeatedly received in enquiries. If every offer depends on the same generic page, reconsider information architecture, copy and the journey. Changing colours will not settle that decision.
Through websites and landing pages, I can organise pages around intent, build an accessible form, connect the CMS and verify that enquiries are recorded. Authorised measurement can be scoped separately. A button click and a saved lead must remain distinct facts.
Compare deliverables before choosing
Clarify who supplies copy and images, how updates work, which integrations are required and who handles incoming requests. The existing article on websites and web applications addresses a different choice: explaining an offer versus operating a workflow. That distinction can prevent buying an application when a clear page is sufficient.

Show where visitors arrive from and which offer they need to understand. I can assess the journey and scope a page around that intent.
